fellowship | 5-25-14

beeToday in Bright Beginnings, we talk about fellowship. It is an amazing thing that God did for us–invite us into his family. Share this truth and be grateful for fellowship this week!

Word: Fellowship

Bug: Bee
Bees live and work together as one big family. God created us to live together with our families at home and at church.

Bible Verse: We are all a part of the family of Christ. Romans 12:5

Story: Paul, Aquila, and Priscilla (Acts 18)
Paul became friends with Aquila and Priscilla when he was in Corinth. They had the same kind of work. They made tents! Aquila and Priscilla invited Paul to stay at their house. They were brothers and sisters in Jesus’ family — just like we are with our friends in Bright Beginnings.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, I know it is important to spend time with other people. Please help me to encourage others around me. I love you. Amen.

Take-it-Home

Parents
How can you help your child fellowship with friends at church? One idea is to attend the same church service each week so your children will develop a good relationship with their teachers and other children in their class.

Birth-Age 2
Find pictures of your family members and make them into a book (it can be as simple as punching a hole in them and tying them together with string). Look through the book often with your little one, saying the name of each family member. Help them understand they belong to a family that loves them!

Age 3-Kindergarten
Plan a play date! Ask your child for names of some of their close friends. Then think together of some children, perhaps from church or school, who could be new friends. Remind them that God wants us to include everyone because we are all a part of His family! Sit back and watch them having fun (fellowship).

What do we mean by Starting Small?

For us Starting small means

  • keeping focused on our mission and allowing God to grow it and modify it in His time.

We have so many dreams of what this blog could be and ideas that would lead us in many different directions but, for now, we are committed to literally “starting small” and staying true to the call of empowering parents (you)!

For you Starting small means

  • beginning to instill God’s truth into your children while they are still small
  • taking small steps in this huge task

We plan to provide family activities and conversation starters, new ideas and fresh inspirations that will help you weave God into every aspect of your child’s life, shaping their heart so that their entire existence becomes an expression of worship that brings glory to our Creator. Yay!

let’s worship our God!

Do you think the praying mantis really prays?

Do you think the praying mantis really prays?

Today was a special day in Bright Beginnings! We celebrated together and worshiped God. Think about ways that you can worship God this week with your attitude, time and thoughts. Telling God thank you, that we love Him, and that we want to follow Him, are all ways to worship Him.

Word:  Worship

Bug:  Praying Mantis
The praying mantis’ folded hands can remind us that we can worship God through prayer!

Bible Verse:  Love the Lord your God with all your heart.  Mark 12:30

Story: King Asa (1  Kings 15:10-24 & 2 Chronicles 14-16)

Prayer: Dear Jesus, I want to make You the center of my life.  I will show You how much I love You by worshiping You. Thank You for loving me. Amen

Take-it-Home

Parents:
We teach children that worship is surrendering to God. The next time your child pushes your patience, remember to surrender the moment to God. Take a minute to calm your anger by stepping away (mentally, if not physically!) and surrender it to God. You will instantly teach a life lesson by your actions!

Birth – Age 2:
When you ride in the car this week, sing “Jesus Loves Me” with your child. Tell your child that God loves to hear us sing to Him. This is worship!

Age 3 – Kindergarten:
Worship is not just something we do at church. We worship God at home, school, the park – everywhere!  Each time you see your child singing to God, sharing toys, reading a Bible story or
being kind to others, remind them that they are worshiping God!

Starting Small is for you!

This blog is designed for you.

Starting small is for the parents of children in the Bright Beginnings children’s ministry (birth-kindergarten) at Jax Naz Church in Jackson, Michigan.

Our purpose is to encourage, inspire, equip and empower you to help your children grow with God–sounds  a lot like our mission in Bright Beginnings, doesn’t it?

“Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him.  Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.”  Colossians 2:7

Starting small has been in the works for a while now, and we are excited to finally share it with you! Launch Day has finally come! God gave us the vision to build this site with the aim of providing direction, support and community for our Bright Beginnings parents.

We hope you love it and get involved!

At church we try to optimize every minute we have with your child, but we only have them for a few hours each week. The truth is, God has given you the task of shaping your child’s heart, developing their concept of Him and helping them understand their place in His world.

That’s quite a responsibility! Many of us wonder “Where do I start?” We pray this blog helps you answer that question as we provide ways for you to take what your child is learning at church and incorporate those truths into your everyday family life.

Each week, look for posts called: take-it-home.

There are so many things competing for your time and attention, promising to help you be a better parent.  We don’t want to be just one more blog on your favorites list tempting you to spend more time disengaged from your family.

Every aspect of starting small has been carefully thought out, discussed through, and prayed over; even the name was a prayerful decision that we feel captures the heart of it all.

Keep reading this week — to find out what starting small is all about!

we honor moms today

Moms:

Remember that first look, first touch, and first sound of your child? The miracle and profoundness of the moment was and still is indescribable.

Scripture has a lot to say about children and parents.

“…oh how blessed are you parents, with your quivers full of children.!” Psalm 127:3-5

“…old people are distinguished by grandchildren; children take pride in their parents.” Proverbs 17:6

…She keeps an eye on everyone in her household, and keeps them all busy and productive…

…Her children respect and bless her; her husband joins in with words of praise: “Many women have done wonderful things, but you’ve outclassed them all!”

…The woman to be admired and praised is the woman who lives in the Fear-of-God….Give her everything she deserves! Festoon her life with praises! Proverbs 31
