Controlling Your Car

Word of the Week:  Self-Control

Bible Verse:  Let Jesus take control of you.  Romans 13:14

Story:  Jesus Heals an Ear  (Luke 22:49-51)

Prayer: Lord, I pray that You will help me to have self-control.  Help my words and actions be kind.  I want to do the right thing and I need Your help.  Amen

“Take-It-Home” Activities

Parents:  Is there an area of your life where you need to have more self-control?  Eating junk food…how you speak to your spouse or kids…how you spend your time…your thoughts…ask God to help you make one change this week in that area!

Birth – Age 2:  Play some music and dance around with your child.  Randomly yell out “Freeze!” and encourage your child to stand still until you say “Dance.”  Increase the length of time and see how long your little one can practice self-control and be still!

Age 3 – Kindergarten:  While eating dinner, pass around a small car.  The person who has the car tells one of the family rules and why it is a good rule.  Go around the table until everyone has had the chance to share.  Then talk about how Jesus can help them have the self-control that they need to follow the rules and make good choices.

triple hearts & a cross and a tooth

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength” (Deuteronomy 6:5) has been our Bible verse for the month of June during Wiggle Waggle Wednesdays.

Tonight we talked for a moment about how we love the Lord our God with all our heart and soul and strength.

Then we passed out some sidewalk chalk and encouraged each child to draw a picture of what it looks like to love the Lord their God with all their heart and soul and strength.

When I asked the kids to tell me about their pictures, I couldn’t help but smile.

Your kids Love the Lord their God with all their heart, soul and strength when they:

are nice to their friends,

obey their mom,

sit by someone who doesn’t have anyone sitting by them,

are camping with their family,

love Jesus forever,

are heart people,

have eleven hearts,

or triple hearts,

and a cross and a tooth.

I think they get it!  Don’t you?

wiggle waggle wednesdays!

Come on out tonight for Wiggle Waggle Wednesdays!  We’ll be talking about how we can “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.”

Word of the Week:  Protection

Bible Verse:  The Lord can protect you.  2 Thessalonians 3:3

Story:  Jesus Calms the Storm (Mark 4:35-41)

(creating the storm)

Prayer: Lord, I am glad You love me and care about what happens to me.  Thank You for always being with me and watching over me.  Help me talk to You when I am afraid.  Amen

“Take-It-Home” Activities

Parents: Fear is a normal emotion for young children.  Anytime your child is fearful, take that opportunity to pray with them, reassuring them that God is always with them.

Birth – Age 2:  Reenact this week’s story with your child.  Take turns being the scared disciple rocking back and forth in the boat during the storm and being Jesus, commanding the wind and the waves to Stop!  Remind them that God is always in control and will protect us.

Age 3 – Kindergarten:  Ask your child what they want to be when they grow up then talk about the different “gear” they would need for the job.  Tell them God has a plan for their life and will always be with them to protect them!

We will be heading to the race track for the next eight weeks in Bright Beginnings! We’ll be racing to make Jesus #1 in our lives and together we’ll discover that Jesus wants to be the “driving force” of our character.  We’ll learn about the character qualities of faith, self-control, obedience, trust and more while we hear stories about Jesus and His ministry.

Here’s what we talked about this week:

Word of the Week:  Faithful

Bible Verse:  Jesus has first place.  Colossians 1:18

Story:  Jesus Calls the Disciples  (Matthew 4:18-22)

Prayer: Lord, Thank You that You are always with me in this great race of life.  You are the best and can always help me.  I love You so much.  Help me to always make You #1 in my life.  Amen

“Take-It-Home” Activities

Parents:  In what way do you need to show God He’s first in your life this week?  Pray about it and ask Him if you are putting anything before Him.

Birth – Age 2:  Create a race track on the floor for small cars with masking tape or blocks then pretend to race your child, taking turns winning.  Remind them that whether we come in first, second or last, Jesus loves us just the same!

Age 3 – Kindergarten:  Take a day this week to wash the family car together!  Talk about who drives the car.  Then talk about how Jesus can be the driver of our lives.

We finished up our “Sailing the C’s” unit today!

“C” of the Week: Celebration

Lesson:  Celebrate Jesus!

Story: Parable of the Great Supper, Luke 14: 15-24

Bible Verse: “I came so that everyone would have a great life.”  John 10:10

Prayer:  Dear Jesus, I am so glad You are God’s Son.  Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins.  I want You to be Lord of my life and the captain of my ship.  Please guide me each day and help me through every situation to do my best.  I cannot do it without Your strength.  Help me to celebrate how You came to give this great life for everyone.  Amen025

(All children in the Backyard & K-Street were given the opportunity to pray this prayer with an adult today.  Ask your child about it!)

Take-It-Home Activities:

Parents: Write a “thank-you” note to God this week.  It will help you keep a “celebration” attitude and your kids will take note!

Birth – Age 2:  Turn on the radio or put in your favorite worship CD and dance with your children!  Remind them that you have so much to be joyful about and that you are dancing for Jesus!

Age 3 – Kindergarten: Plan a celebration dinner for Jesus!  Have your children help plan the meal (or special dessert), make decorations, and even invite friends.  At the dinner, talk with your children about what God has done for your family.

wiggle waggle wednesdays are here!

Tonight was the opening night of our 3rd Annual Wiggle Waggle Wednesdays!

Over this summer the Garden and Backyard kids will be participating in Wiggle Waggle Wednesdays; it’s basically our own version of Kid City’s Wet & Wacky Wednesdays, just a little less wacky and a lot less wet!

We will be playing exciting games (think elementary gym class…remember parachute day?!), worshiping with music and movement (think drums and other fun percussion instruments) and putting God’s Word in our hearts (memorization!).

Each child in the Garden and Backyard will be assigned a team (either Orange or Blue) and will be competing all summer to earn points for their team.

Attending Service:  1 point

Wearing Your Team Color:  2 points

Winning Games Played Each Week:  3 points

Bringing a Friend:  5 points

Memorizing the Lord’s Prayer:  10 points

Memorizing Each Month’s Bible Verse:  10 points

Being Able to Recite All Four at the End of Summer:  Priceless (and 20 points)

You can help your child by making sure they are at church, being willing to transport a few extra friends, reminding them to dress in their team color (anything from hair accessories and hats to colored shirts and socks are great), and working with them on memorizing the Lord’s Prayer and verse of the month at home!

June:  “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.”  Deuteronomy 6:5

July:  “Do to others as you would have them do to you.”  Luke 6:31

August:  “Children obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.”  Colossians 3:20

The Lord’s Prayer:  “Our Father, in Heaven, hallowed be Your name.  Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for Thine is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory forever.  Amen

Tonight we had fun creating cheers for our teams.

Thanks in advance for making our summer of Wiggle Waggle Wednesdays a success!  We’re looking forward to Wiggling and Waggling with your kiddos!

* We will be playing most of our games in Kid City (as they are out on the baseball field getting wet and being wacky) and we may play outside a few times in the grassy area outside Bright Beginnings.  If you have any concerns about your children being in either of these two areas during service, please let Ryanne know.

“C” of the Week: Commitment

Lesson:  Obey God!

Story: Paul, Acts 21:27-28:31

Bible Verse: Trust your work to the Lord.  Proverbs 16:3

Prayer:  Dear Jesus, help me to love You and obey You at all times.  Guide me each day to do the right things.  I am so glad I can always count on You to be with me and give me the strength I need.  Help me to be a good example to others and to share Your love with them.  Amen

Take-It-Home Activities:

Parents: Intentionally commit some extra time to God and your children this week.  Choose two times throughout the week where you give up some television or computer time and commit one of those times to God by reading the Bible or journaling some prayers or thoughts and commit the other time to your children by playing with them or reading to them.

Birth – Age 2:  Young children can learn to be committed to God as you lead them in prayer all throughout the day; before meals, at bedtime, when they feel scared or anxious, when you are thankful, etc.  They can also learn commitment to God by hearing Bible stories read to them and by being at church regularly.

Age 3 – Kindergarten: Remind your child that when they obey you they are obeying God.  Hang their “I will obey” calendar somewhere in your home and give them a sticker (or help them draw a star) on it every time they obey this week!
