Story:  David & Goliath (1 Samuel 17:1-58)

Bible Verse:  “…and to your goodness, add KNOWLEDGE” 2 Peter 1:5c

Prayer: Dear God, You know everything because You made everything.  I am glad that You made me and gave me a mind to learn.  Help me to learn more about You so that I can understand You better.  Help me to learn Your ways so that I can do what is right.  Amen

Take-It Home Activities:

Parents:  Pray specifically that God will expand your knowledge of Him this week and then have faith that He will reveal Himself to you in new ways!

Birth – Age 2:  Children learn so quickly at this age!  Talk to your children as much as you can.  As you are dressing them point out body parts, as you are driving talk about God’s creation, during dinner talk about how God made each food to help their body in a special way.  You’ll be amazed at what they will remember!

Age 3 – Kindergarten:  Take a trip to the library and pick out some non-fiction books on something your child finds interesting (trains, dogs, volcanoes, anything!).  Spend some time reading, learning and discussing together.  Remind your child that God created their mind and desires for them to learn!

Wednesday Nights in April

We have been studying Samson on Wednesday nights in Bright Beginnings!

Story:  Samson & Delilah  (Judges 16)

Bible Verse:  “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”  Philippians 4:13

To do @ Home:

  • Talk with your child about his/her biggest challenges. Write the words “I can _________________ with Jesus” on sticky notes.  Place one near each challenging area (at the table because its hard to eat vegetables).  Have your child say Philippians 4:13 each time they see a note.
  • Make barbells with empty paper towel rolls, newspaper and aluminum foil. Roll newspaper into “”  Position a ball at each end of the tube.  Wrap with foil until sturdy (or allow children to decorate with crayons and stickers).  Take turns with the barbell and say Philippians 4:13 together while “exercising.

Story:  King Josiah (2 Kings 22:1-7)

Bible Verse:  “…and to your faith, add GOODNESS” 2 Peter 1:5b

Prayer: Dear Jesus, everything about You is good.  Help me to make good choices so that I can be like You.  Guide me to see that Your way is the best way.  Amen

Take-It-Home Activities:

Parents:  Do a good deed with your child for someone else this week, then explain to your child why you took the time to help someone else.  Explain what making good choices does for your heart!

Birth – Age 2:  Choices help children develop independence and individuality; however, too many choices can be overwhelming for young children.  A good rule of thumb is to offer your child the number of choices as is their age (two choices for a two year old = would you like to wear your blue shirt or green shirt).  This sets your children up for success and helps them develop the skills to make good choices!

Age 3 – Kindergarten:  The next time you read a story or watch a show, talk with your children about choices the characters made and what the results were of those choices.  Ask them what choices they would have made in a similar situation.

chemical reactions

We started a new unit a couple weeks ago in Bright Beginnings called Chemical Reactions.

We will be spending the next eight weeks mixing up some fun in our chemistry lab!  We will learn about the characteristics from 2 Peter 1:5-7 that can help us be more like Christ.  We’ll take time each week to put on our lab coats and learn about faith, goodness, knowledge, self-control, patience, service, kindness and love.  When we add them up and mix them together we get the perfect formula for our character!

Here’s our take home information for Week 1:

Series Bible Verse:  2 Peter 1:5-7 “…add this to your life: faith, and to your faith, goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, patience; and to patience, service for God; and to service for God, kindness; and to kindness, love.

Character Element of the Week: Faith

Story:  The Captain’s Servant (Matthew 8:5-13)

IMG_20160410_113704557_censored

Bible Verse:  “…add this to your life: faith” 2 Peter 1:5a

Prayer: Dear Jesus, I want to believe in You.  I am so glad that I can come to church and learn about You.  Help me to trust You and the plans You have for my life.  Amen

Take-It-Home Activities:

Parents:  You are a model of Christ to your child.  Children will learn to trust in Jesus by watching you.  Talk with your child about Jesus.  Share what He has done for you; how He keeps you safe, helps you sleep, or heals you.

Birth – Age 2:  Children’s faith will grow the more they trust and know!  As you and your children are riding in the car, getting dressed or looking out the window, take turns spotting things that God made.

Age 3 – Kindergarten:  Play “Lead the Blind” game.  Blindfold a family member.  Another family member will give them verbal directions to get from one place to another.  Do you have faith that you will be lead the right way and not bump into things?
