“Driving Your Course”

Word of the Week:  Obey

Bible Verse:  Stay on the right track.  Philippians 3:16

Story:  The Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37)

Prayer: Lord, I pray that I can understand how to stay on the right track and do the right things.  Help me to obey your instructions that are in the Bible and make good choices in my life.  Help me to be kind to others, just like the Good Samaritan.  Amen

“Take-It-Home” Activities:

Parents: Are you on the right course in your own life?  Is there something God has been asking you to do?  Are you listening to His voice?  Our own children can’t obey us if they aren’t listening to hear what we’re asking of them.  It is the same with our Heavenly Father.  Take some time this week to intentionally listen for His voice and obey what He says!  It may be as simple as paying for the person behind you in line to taking the first step toward a major change in your life!

Birth – Age 2:  Play a game with your child.  Hide a small item in the house and then give them directions to help them find it.  Remind them to listen carefully so that they can follow the directions.  When they find it, give them a big hug and lots of praise!

Age 3 – Kindergarten: Ask your child about the picture they colored or drew today in class. Brainstorm with them ways they can show kindness to others just like the Good Samaritan did (sit by someone who is sitting alone, share their toys, allow others to go first, invite children to play with them, etc.) and help them do just that this week!

“Controlling Your Car”

Word of the Week:  Self-Control

Bible Verse:  Let Jesus take control of you.  Romans 13:14 (paraphrase)

Story:  Jesus Heals an Ear  (Luke 22:49-51)

Prayer:  Lord, I pray that You will help me to have self-control.  Help my words and actions be kind.  I want to do the right thing and I need Your help.  Amen.

“Take-It-Home” Activities:

Parents:  Is there an area of your life where you need to have more self-control?Eating junk food…how you speak to your spouse or kids…how you spend your time…your thoughts…ask God to help you make one change this week in that area!

Birth – Age 2:  Play some music and dance around with your child.  Randomly yell out “Freeze!” and encourage your child to stand still until you say “Dance.”  Increase the length of time and see how long your little one can practice self-control and be still!

Age 3 – Kindergarten:  While eating dinner, pass around a small car.  The person who has the car tells one of the family rules and why it is a good rule.  Go around the table until everyone has had the chance to share.  Then talk about how Jesus can help them have the self-control that they need to follow the rules and make good choices.

Bible Verse:  “Do not be afraid, for I am with you.”  Isaiah 41:10a

Theme Song:  I Will Hold on to Him  (click on the link to hear the song and see our motions)

Conversation starters @ Home:

  • Why do you think Daniel disobeyed the King’s new law?
  • I wonder how Daniel felt right before being thrown into the lion’s den.
  • What do you think made Daniel trust in God?
  • Would you like to share what makes you scared?
  • Where is God when you are scared?

And some pictures from last night…can you tell what we were making? 🙂

Wearing Your Gear!

Word of the Week:  Protection

Bible Verse:  The Lord can protect you.  2 Thessalonians 3:3

Story: Jesus Calms the Storm (Mark 4:35-41)

Helping Mr. Tom act out the story.  Can you tell which child is playing the role of Jesus sleeping? 🙂

Prayer:  Lord, I am glad You love me and care about what happens to me.  Thank You for always being with me and watching over me .  Help me to talk to You when I am afraid.  Amen

Miss Alyssa showing our K-Street friends where Haiti is located.  They were able to watch a video of Miss Ryanne’s niece and nephew, who live in Haiti, talk about how God protected them during the recent hurricane, just like He did for the disciples in our story today!

“Take-It-Home” Activities

Parents: Fear is a normal emotion for young children.  Anytime your child is fearful, take that opportunity to pray with them, reassuring them that God is always with them..

Birth – Age 2: Reenact this week’s story with your child.  Take turns being the scared disciple rocking back and forth in the boat during the storm and being Jesus, commanding the wind and the waves to Stop!  Remind them that God is always in control and will protect us.

Age 3 – Kindergarten: Ask your child what they want to be when they grow up then talk about the different “gear” they would need for the job.  Tell them God has a plan for their life and will always be with them to protect them!

Making “waves” until “Jesus” commands them to stop!

Praising Jesus!  Rockin’ it out during praise & worship.

Starting our Cars!

Word of the Week:  Faithful

Bible Verse:  Jesus has first place.  Colossians 1:18

Story:  Jesus Calls the Disciples  (Matthew 4:18-22)

Prayer: Lord, Thank You that You are always with me in this great race of life.  You are the best and can always help me.  I love You so much.  Help me to always make You #1 in my life.  Amen

“Take-It-Home” Activities

Parents:  In what way do you need to show God He’s first in your life this week?  Pray about it and ask Him if you are putting anything before Him.

Birth – Age 2:  Create a race track on the floor for small cars with masking tape or blocks then pretend to race your child, taking turns winning.  Remind them that whether we come in first, second or last, Jesus loves us just the same!

Age 3 – Kindergarten:  Take a day this week to wash the family car together!  Talk about who drives the car.  Then talk about how Jesus can be the driver of our lives.

starting tomorrow

We are headed to the race track for the next eight weeks in Bright Beginnings! We will be racing to make Jesus #1 in our lives and together we’ll discover that Jesus wants to be the “driving force” of our character.  We’ll learn about the character qualities of faith, self-control, obedience, trust and more while we hear stories about Jesus and His ministry.
