“Discipleship” was the word in Bright Beginnings last Sunday, and it’s a big part of what we do at Jax Naz Church. Truth is, none of us can rely solely on the church to teach our kids about God, and it is not something that can wait until we someday have it all figured out.
Helping your child grow with Christ does not start with one conversation when they are “old enough to understand.” It begins now.
You do not have to be a Super-Christian-Parent to have children that love and live for God; you just have to be willing to start small and plant the seeds–that with God’s help will last forever.
Begin planting small seeds and shaping their concept of God as you include Him in every interaction, conversation, learning experience, disappointment and celebration.
Please take a look around starting small (click on all the tabs) and be encouraged by what you see. Try out a few take-it-home activities, and invest in your child’s eternity.
We are here for you and we want to know how we can help. Leave comments, ask questions, share what you find that works, and encourage other parents around you.

Partnering with you,
When a caterpillar goes into his cocoon, he turns into a beautiful butterfly. When we spend time learning about Jesus and reading the Bible, we can become more like him.
Bible Verse: Your attitude should be like Jesus. Philippians 2:5
Story: James (Matthew 4:21, 17:5; Mark 3:17, 5:37, 14:33 & John 21:1-2)
Prayer: Dear Jesus, I understand that you made me. Help me to become more like you! Amen.
There are so many ways that we would like to become more like Jesus. Make it simple this week. Ask God to show you just one way that you can be more like him and start being/doing it (in His strength).
Even a very young child can recognize characters in a story (think: Dora, Daniel Tiger, and Big Bird). Introducing your child to characters from God’s Word is a big part of discipleship! Read from a Children’s Bible every day and help your child get to know Jesus! (If you don’t have a children’s bible, stop by Bright Beginnings and ask for one).
Prayer is a spiritual discipline! This week, plan to pray with your child often. Before bed and meal times are a great way to start. Pray when your child feels anxious or when you are riding in the car, or when you learn that a friend is sick. Help your child know that we can talk to Jesus anytime and anywhere!
Bug this week: Butterfly
Word of the week: Discipleship
Verse of the week: Your attitude should be like Jesus. (Philippians 2:5)
Story: Matthew 4:21, 17:5, Mark 3:17, 5:37, 14:33 & John 21:1-2
Prayer: Dear Jesus, I understand that You made me. Help me to become more like You. Amen
In an amazing process, the caterpillar changes to a butterfly! Much like this, we change from our old life to a new one as we trust Jesus and follow him.
Kids can understand that when a caterpillar goes into his cocoon, he turns into a beautiful butterfly; and that when we spend time learning about Jesus and reading the Bible, we can become more like Him.
How can we take this message home all week long? Read and pray. Find ways to pray all day long. You can talk to God when
- your child falls down or gets hurt
- you get in the car to drive to daycare
- you sit down to eat a meal
Make a point to read a Bible story every day this week. Let your children interact with the pictures and characters – talk about who they are and what is happening. There are some wonderful preschool Bibles – make a special purchase this week if you don’t already have one on your shelf:
- The Early Readers Bible (Gold n’ Honey Books)
- The Right Choices (McDowell)
- My First Study Bible (Thomas Nelson)
- The Beginner’s Bible (Zonderkids)
Read and pray this week! Grow with your child – from caterpillar to butterfly as you learn more about Jesus and trust in Him!
