Over the next two months in Bright Beginnings we are going to grab our aprons and cook up some tasty tidbits for spiritual nourishment.  Together we’ll measure out the ingredients to obey, trust, rely, share, listen, recognize, and remember right from God’s own recipe book, the Bible.  Check back here each week to find recipes the whole family can make together to help your child baked these truths into their heart!

August 27th  :  OBEY, “To love God means we obey Him.”  I John 5:3

September 3rd :  TRUST, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart.”  Proverbs 3:5

September 10th :  RELY,  “We know and need God’s love.”  I John 4:16a

September 17th :  SHARE,  “Share what you have with others.”  Romans 12:13

September 24th :  LISTEN,  “Be quick to listen and slow to speak.”  James 1:19

October 1st :  RECOGNIZE,  “My people know and follow me.”  John 10:27

October 8th :  REMEMBER,  “I remember your name, O Lord.”  Psalm 119:55

October 15th :  FEED,  “Feed the hungry and help others.”  Isaiah 58:10

If your child has any food allergies, please make sure to contact Ryanne Johnston ( or 517-782.7084 x301) so that we can be sure to have a safe option available each week.  Thank you!

wiggle waggle wednesdays have begun!

We launched our 4th Annual Wiggle Waggle Wednesdays tonight in Bright Beginnings!

During the next three months The Garden and Backyard kids will be participating in Wiggle Waggle Wednesdays in Bright Beginnings.  It’s basically our own version of Kid City’s Wet & Wacky Wednesdays, just a little less wacky and a lot less wet!

We will be playing exciting games (think elementary gym class…remember parachute day?!), worshiping with music and movement (think drums and other fun percussion instruments) and putting God’s Word in our hearts (memorization!).  Each child in the Garden and Backyard will be assigned a team (either Orange or Blue) and will be competing all summer to earn points for their team (see point chart below).

Attending Service:  1 point

Wearing Your Team Color:  2 points

Winning Games Played Each Week:  3 points

Bringing a Friend:  5 points

Memorizing the Lord’s Prayer:  10 points

Memorizing Each Month’s Bible Verse:  10 points

Being Able to Recite All Four at the End of Summer:  Priceless  (and 20 points)

You can help your child by making sure they are here, being willing to transport a few extra friends, reminding them to dress in their team color (anything from hair accessories and hats to colored shirts and socks count), and working with them on memorizing the Lord’s Prayer and verse of the month at home!

June:  “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.”  Deuteronomy 6:5

July:  “Do to others as you would have them do to you.”  Luke 6:31

August:  “Children obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.”  Colossians 3:20

The Lord’s Prayer:  “Our Father, in Heaven, hallowed be Your name.  Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for Yours is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory forever.  Amen

* We will be playing most of our games in Kid City (as they are out on the baseball field getting wet and being wacky) or outside in the grassy area outside Bright Beginnings.  If you have any concerns about your children being in either of these two areas during service, please let Miss Ryanne know.

Thanks in advance for making our summer of Wiggle Waggle Wednesdays a success.  We are all looking forward to Wiggling and Waggling with your kiddos!

To kick of Wiggle Waggle Wednesdays, we assigned teams and then created team cheers!

Who will win this year?!

wednesday nights in may

Here’s what we’re learning about this month on Wednesday nights in Bright Beginnings!

Story: The Fiery Furnace (Daniel 3)

Bible Verse:  “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”  Proverbs 3:5

Theme SongTrust in the Lord (click on #7 to hear the song)

To do @ Home:

  • Take your child/ren on a trust walk; blindfold them, then lead them by the hand throughout your house or around your yard. Make sure to go over obstacles (perhaps some pillows on the floor), up and down stairs and around corners.  Once you are finished, ask your children about their experience.  How did they feel?  How hard was it to trust you to guide them?  Explain that even though we cannot see Him, we can always trust God to lead us!
  • Help your child write this month’s Bible verse on a piece of paper and keep it at your table (they can even decorate it with colors or stickers). Take time to read it together before a meal each day!

Hope to see you tonight!
